Literary Elements & Other Definitions for Literature --> F & G:
1. Fable --> type of folk tale in which a lesson (or moral) is learned, usually through animals
2. Fairy Tale --> fantasy in which magical beings do good or bad things in the lives of people, sometimes includes dragons, wizards, elves, people with superpowers, etc.
3. Falling Action --> the action that follows the climax and leads to the denouement; where the character determines whether or not the decisions he/she made in the climax were good ones
4. Fantasy --> highly imaginative writing that contains elements not found in real life
5. Fiction --> prose writing that tells about imaginary characters and events
6. Figurative Language --> words/phrases that have meanings different from their usual ones in order to create a poetic and/or literary effect (creates vivid impressions)
7. First Person Point of View --> uses words like "I, me, we, our" when a character in the story tells the story
8. Flashback --> a scene, like a dream or hallucination, that interrupts the on-going action in a story to show an event (or necessary background information)
9. Flat Character --> character who shows only one trait (the character does not change)
10. Foil --> a character who is contrasted to another character
11. Folklore / Folktale --> stories and legends transmitted by word of mouth (oral tradition), rather than in writing, usually set in the country
12. Foreshadowing --> the use of hints or clues to suggest what action is to come
