Mapping
Mapping is a reading technique that will help you to become an active reader – that means that these skills will help you to stay focused, stay awake, and stay organized when it’s time to go back and find answers once you have finished reading. Mapping is quite simple… use these strategies for a while, until you get used to them, and then make up your own.
By doing this, when it’s time to go back to the reading selection and answer a question about a specific person, all you have to do is scan the circles. If the question asks you about a specific time or date, look for boxes… and so forth.. This WILL take some practice, but you WILL get faster at it and it WILL improve your test scores because you won’t make mistakes with the details. Once you have the hang of it, you can use stars instead of boxes if you want to; it’s up to you. Now that you know how to map, it’s time to test your skills. It’s time to practice. Map the next few pieces of literature and see how it works. |
