Literary Devices for Middle Grades, High School & College --> Q & R:
- Quatrain = a four-line stanza, usually with a definite rhythm and rhyme scheme
- Refrain = a repeated line or group of lines in a poem or song
- Repetition = the repetition of sounds at the end of words
- Rhyme scheme = a regular pattern of rhyming words in a poem
- Reasoning = arguments or evidence used to form conclusions, judgments, or inferences
- Rhythm = the patterns of beats or stresses in spoken or written language
- Round character = a character who undergoes a change -- and who shows many different traits -- > faults as well as virtues
- Rising action = in the plot of the story, all of the events leading up to the climax (where the problem begins); called the complication
- Realistic fiction = a made-up story that seems as if it could be true (mirrors life)
- Rapsodes = minstrels or singers
